Who we are
The GVN Intranet is an online platform designed to help members engage with one another, start and lead relevant discussions, and exchange helpful information that will help fortify the ties that bind us as the Global Virus Network. This platform will simplify information-sharing by combining data from all our centers and center members into a single, organized area that is always available.
Through this platform, our users (herein "Members") connect, share their professional identities, post and view pertinent content, and discover career and business opportunities. Non-members will not be able to view content or data on this platform. That’s because the overall purpose is to make for a private space for forthright information-sharing for enacting GVN’s mission to end viral threats, including sharing without concern of the misuse of such information. Members of the GVN Intranet found to be violating this purpose will have their accounts suspended and, as applicable for legal concerns, referred to the appropriate authorities.
About our Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains GVN Intranet's privacy practices about the use of GVN Intranet's website and applies to data provided on or through the website (add link) and the services provided by GVN Intranet through the website ("Services"). It also explains your options for how your Personal Information is used, as well as how you can access and update this data. The information gathered via GVN Intranet Services will only be used for the functions for which the User has enrolled in GVN Intranet and as further detailed in this Privacy Policy.
The GVN Intranet protects your privacy by adhering to these guidelines:
- We only gather the minimum amount of Personal Information required to deliver the Services.
- Unless you agree differently, we only use your Personal Information for the purposes we outline in this Privacy Policy.
- If your personal information is no longer required, it is disposed of, and it is not shared with outside parties except as allowed by this Privacy Policy.
- You acknowledge and agree that all information accessible on the GVN Intranet is not permitted to be shared outside of the website or with non-Members.
Changes to our Policy
After the "effective date," changes to the Privacy Policy will apply to your usage of our services.
GVN reserves the right to amend this Privacy Policy. Should we do so, we will notify you through our services or in another way, giving you the chance to review the changes before they take effect. You can ask the GVN team to deactivate your account if you disagree with any changes.
It is understood that by using our services, that after we publish or notify you of our changes to this privacy statement, you agree to be bound by the updated privacy statement as of the time of its effective use.
What we collect
1. Data You Provide to Us
To create an account with us, you have to supply data. You will need to enter information when creating an account. When you write your brief bio, you have the option to explicitly state your interests, skills, and area of expertise. It should be noted that to access the site after completing this step, you will require approval to access the intranet.
Although it's not necessary to include more information in your profile, having a clear and concise description along with a picture makes it easier for others to find you and recognize you on the intranet and at any in-person or online meetings. If there is anything personal you would not want the public to see, please do not post it or add it to your profile. Posting or uploading personal information is not required, but doing so might make it easier for you to expand and interact with your network via our Services.
On our Services, you and other users may publish content that contains information about you or others (in the form of articles, posts, or comments) that we might gather. In addition, we may also gather public information about you, like achievements and news about your career, and provide it as part of our services.
When you view or click on content, search, visit other members' pages, start or comment on a topic, or engage in other interactions with our sites, apps, and platform technology, we log usage data. To identify you and track your usage, we use cookies, device data, internet protocol ("IP") addresses, and log-ins.
We may obtain data and develop new applications for data as part of our ongoing efforts to improve our services, including adding new features that gather more data. So we may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time if we gather significantly different personal data or if we materially alter how we gather, use, or share your data. We will let you know in advance through posting via our services, allowing you the option to cancel your account prior to the implementation of changes in our services and so to the Privacy Policy.
2. How we use your data
We use your information to provide, support, personalize, and develop our Services.
We will use your personal information in different ways: we will use your data following the Services you use, how you use those Services, and the settings you choose. We use the data we have about you to provide and personalize our Services, including using automated systems and inferences we make, so that our Services are more relevant and useful to you and others.
Our Services help you keep in touch with colleagues, partners, and other professional contacts. To accomplish this, you can "connect" with the professionals you select who also wish to "connect" with you. When you connect with other Members, you will be able to search each other's connections to exchange professional opportunities, depending on your and their settings. Our search functions are customized and designed to help others find you and vice versa. You can connect with members from various institutions with a wide range of expertise.
You have the option of inviting someone to our Services, sending a connection request, or allowing another Member to be your connection. When you invite someone to connect with you, your invitation will include information about your network as well as basic profile information. Anyone outside the GVN Intranet, however, will need GVN’s approved for an account, first, which is not guaranteed.
Our Services keep you up to date on news, events, taskforces and watch groups, and ideas about professional topics that are important to you and from professionals with whom you might want to collaborate.
We create new services and conduct research, including public feedback, to conduct research and development for our Services to provide you and others with a better, more intuitive, and personalized experience, to drive membership growth and engagement on our Services, and to help connect professionals.
Polls and surveys are conducted by us via our Services. You are not required to respond to polls or surveys, and you can choose what information you provide.
We use data (including your communications) to investigate, respond to, and resolve complaints, as well as to address Service issues.
3. How We Share Information
All Members and customers of our Services can see your profile. Our Services enable you to view and share information, such as through forums, discussions, and following.
When you share an article or a post outside of a private group, it is available to everyone and can be re-shared. Members will be able to find and view your publicly shared content, as well as your name (and if you have provided one, a photo).
Posts in a group are visible to all members of the group. Your membership in a group is public and appears on your profile.
We notify senders when you respond to their posts. When you view a Member’s profile, we may notify them.
When you like, re-share, or comment on another person's content, others can see these "social actions" and associate them with you (e.g., your name, profile, and photo if you provided it).
3.1 Legal Disclosures
We may be required to disclose information about you if we are required to do so by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we have a good faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to (1) investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities or to assist government enforcement agencies (e.g., the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for any suspected use of information posted on the GVN Intranet used for market manipulation and/or insider trading); (2) enforce our agreements with you; (3) investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations (e.g., stealing ideas shared on the GVN Intranet, infringing copyrights, etc.); or (4) protect the security of the system. We make every effort to notify Members of legal demands for their data when we believe it is appropriate unless prohibited by law or court order, or when the request is an emergency. We may challenge such demands if we believe, in our sole discretion, that they are overbroad, vague, or lack proper authority, but we do not promise to do so for every demand.
4. How we store data
We generally keep your data for as long as you keep your account open or as long as necessary to provide you with Services. This includes information you or others provided to us, as well as information generated or inferred from your use of our Services. Even if you only use our Services rarely (e.g., once every few years), we will keep your information and keep your profile open unless you close your account. We may choose to keep certain information (for example, insights about Service usage) in a depersonalized or aggregated form in some cases.
We offer options for the collection, use, and sharing of your data, ranging from deleting or correcting data in your profile to controlling the visibility of your posts and communication controls. We provide you with options for controlling and managing the personal information we have on file for you.
For data we have about you, you may choose to:
- Delete Data: You may request that we erase or delete all or some of your data (for example, if providing Services to you is no longer necessary).
- Change or Correct Data: You can change or correct some of your personal information through your account. In some cases, you can also request that we change, update, or correct your data, particularly if it is inaccurate.
If you choose to deactivate your GVN Intranet account, your data will generally no longer be visible to others on our Services. Except as noted below, we generally delete closed account information within 30 days of account closure. After your account is closed, we will keep de-personalized information.
We have no control over data that other Members have copied out of our Services. Your profile may remain visible in the services until they refresh their cache.
5. Other Important Information
We monitor for and attempt to prevent security breaches. Please make use of the security features available through our Services.
We regularly monitor our systems for potential vulnerabilities and attacks. However, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you send us. There is no guarantee that data will not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed because of a breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards.
We may process data both within and outside the United States, and we may rely on legally mandated mechanisms to transfer data across borders.
Please contact the GVN Team ([email protected]) if you have any questions or complaints about this Privacy Policy.
